Sokol Hall

The beginnings of today's Laško Cultural Centre date back to the activities of the Sokol movement. By organising and staging various events, the Sokol association raised money for premises dedicated to sport and culture. Many individuals and organisations helped with financial contributions and voluntary work, with miners from the nearby Huda Jama mine particularly active. Sokol Hall was ceremonially opened in 1933. It hosted theatrical and sporting events, while the area in front was equally lively: people played bowls, rowed on the Savinja, and the site of today's car park beside the building served as a gymnastics ground for Sokol athletes. The hall was later renamed Dom Partizana and then Dom Dušana Poženela; for a time primary-school children had physical education there, young people held dances, and residents of Laško gathered for celebrations.

The building received its present renovated appearance in 1993 with financial support from Pivovarna Laško.

Today the air-conditioned multipurpose hall with 262 seats hosts concerts, theatre performances and shows for children, as well as exhibitions, seminars, congresses and other gatherings. The hall is complemented by an attractive two-storey foyer arranged as a gallery and suitable for small receptions and refreshments during intervals. It also includes space for a bar, cloakroom and backstage preparation. A large free car park stands beside the monumental Cultural Centre building.
