Monument to Primož Trubar

For the 500th anniversary of Trubar's birth, academic sculptor Ferenc Király created an exceptional sculpture of the father of the Slovenian book, who also spent part of his life in Laško as a preacher. Primož Trubar is shown with an open book and a gentle, perhaps slightly wistful gaze directed into the distance — ready to listen and ready to speak, thoughtful and dreamlike, a man who gave the Slovenian people all his knowledge and all his dreams.

After completing the School of Arts and Crafts in Ljubljana, Ferenc Király enrolled at the Ljubljana Academy of Fine Arts in 1959 and completed three semesters under Professor Frančišek Smerdu. He continued his studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb, graduating in 1964 under Professor Fran Kršinić. Király's sculptural work covers numerous genres: portrait sculpture, freestanding sculpture in small and large formats, relief and intarsia, interior sculpture, outdoor works and monumental memorial sculpture in Radenci, Lendava, Dobrovnik, Turnišče, Dokležovje, Tešanovci, Laško, Lenti and Szentgotthárd. Stylistically, Király favours firm sculptural forms, emphasised corporeality, static composition and stability.
