Immaculate Mary Monument

In the centre of Aškerc Square stands a stone votive monument with a statue of Mary. It was commissioned in 1735 by Laško townsman Tomaž Perger and originally erected in Marija Gradec at the foot of the hill beside the lower chapel and steps. Just under 45 years later, at the initiative of market judge Jakob Herman, the statue was moved to its present location. It was renovated in 1826 and again in 1931, the latter restoration initiated by Ana Mayer. Today a copy of the statue stands on the tall stone pedestal; the original is kept in the Church of St Martin.
